Make epoxy resin magnets yourself

Epoxy resin magnets for your fridge or whiteboard are a quick and easy project for beginners and advanced users alike. As always, you can decide for yourself which colors, motifs and effects you want to cast - nothing is impossible with JDiction.
In this post we will show you how to make synthetic resin magnets and what you need for them!

You need:

  • JDiction Epoxy Resin (or JDiction UV Resin)
  • JDiction Resin Colorant
  • Measuring cups
  • Mixing cup
  • Stir bars
  • Gloves
  • Scattered decorations, glitter, plastic figures, dried flowers, etc.
  • Silicone mold
  • Magnets that are smaller than your shape
  • Glue (e.g. superglue)

Pour resin magnets - this is how it works:

Preparation:
Have all the materials ready. Note that we recommend for your materials and workspace to be between 72-85°F.

Step 1: Put on the disposable gloves and mix our EPODEX ECO system according to the instructions in a ratio of 1: 1 by volume. Stir well until no more streaks can be seen (no need to mix when using UV resin).

Step 2: Pour half of the resin into another container and mix it with resin colorant as desired. Here you can freely decide how many drops or powder you want to add according to the desired color intensity. Use a stirring stick to stir the colorant evenly into the epoxy. All of our colors can be mixed together - so you can achieve very individual color results! If you want to embed objects, work layer by layer and let the resin set before placing anything in the mold. You can also stir coarse glitter directly into the transparent resin with the help of a toothpick and then pour it into the mold. Simply fill the silicone molds according to your taste.

Step 3: Take the epoxy resin magnets out of the mold after 24 hours. But check beforehand whether the resin is really already completely hardened, otherwise it can still deform when it is molded.

Step 4: With transparent castings, the use of silicone molds can lead to streaks on the edge. You can polish these away with sandpaper.

Step 5: Attach the magnets to the back with the help of glue, for example superglue. When the glue has dried, you can use the magnets.
