5 Ways To Create A Marble Effect With Eco Resin ResinCrete

Resin pouring is a technique used by crafters when creating items out of Epoxy resin. Creating coloured marble effects using resin creates unique, interesting items every time. Part of the fun of marbling resin is the un-moulding at the end to see how your project turned out.

In this article, you will find out how to mix your resin ready for pouring and 5 different pouring techniques to create amazing marbling effects.

How To Mix Your ResinCrete Ready For Pouring

It is important to make sure that you mix your ResinCrete correctly before starting to make your items.

To get started you will need:

• Eye protection
• Gloves disposable or reusable is fine.
• Clean mixing cups (avoid old food containers if using recycled materials, )
• Clean mixing sticks
• Mini digital scale

Tips When Mixing Your ResinCrete

• Always use clean equipment to avoid any dirt falling into your resin mixture.
• Only use plastic, metal, or wax-free paper containers. Glass or foam containers may cause exothermic heat buildup.
• Do not adjust the ResinCretecure time by changing the mix ratio. This could affect the final properties of your ResinCrete.

Mixing Your ResinCrete

When using our Eco ResinCrete you only need water to get started. We will be using a ratio of 10:3 with 10 parts resin and 3 parts water. Choose which colours you will use to add to your ResinCrete. Check out the pigments we sell here.

• Always add the powder to the liquid to ensure everything is fully combined and there are no lumps.
• Add the powder slowly to the water and use a stick to mix them together.
• Continually mix for at least 2-3 minutes or until the materials are fully combined.
• Make sure to scrap excess powder from the sides and bottom of the container whilst mixing.

Adding coloured pigments

• Once combined you can decant your ResinCrete into smaller containers ready to add your pigments.
• Add your coloured pigments a little at a time and use your stick to mix them into the resin thoroughly.
• You can also add fine glitter, shimmers or gold foil flakes to add extra sparkle.
• Remember to protect your surfaces as most pigments can stain.

Creating 5 Different Resin Marble Effects

1. ‘Dirty Pouring’ ResinCrete

For this method start with a light base colour of ResinCrete. Uncoloured, white resin is perfect. Add a couple of drops of the pigments you’ve chosen. Using a toothpick swirl the colours in your container but don’t mix them in.

Next, pour your resin into your mould. You can choose to pour your ResinCrete straight in or swirl the liquid more whilst pouring by moving the material around as it enters the mould.

2. Double Pouring ResinCrete 

This method uses 2 solid colours poured at the same time to create a marble effect. Once you’ve mixed your colours hold one in each hand above your mould. Pour both colours at the same time, from the same height. Move the containers around as you pour to swirl the colours together as they fill the mould. Experiment with pouring from different heights to give different effects.

This method will give you less blended colours than method 1.

3. Layering Up Your ResinCrete 

Method 3 involves layering your coloured resin in the same container before pouring it into your mould.
You can use as many colours as you like for this method. 3 colours work well, white plus 2 other colours.

To prepare for your ResinCrete pour first add white to the bottom of a clean container. Next, take one of your colours and pour it on top of the white. Hold your cup slightly sidewards and pour your resin towards the side of the cup. This will help keep the colours separated.

Add as many layers of colour as you want. Now you’re ready to pour your ResinCrete into your mould. You can either hold your container still or swirl the resin into your mould. Each technique will result in a different marbling effect.

4 Using A Split Cup

A split cup allows you to pour a range of colours, usually around 5, at the same time. You can mix your colours directly in the sections of the cup or in separate containers. The sections can be quite small so double check your pigments are thoroughly combined before pouring.  Make sure to clean your mixing stick between colours.

Now you’re ready to pour the ResinCrete into your mould. Watch the colour move and swirl into your mould creating a colourful marbling effect.

5 Large Resin Marble Projects

You can also use ResinCrete to create larger marbling projects. There are two types of techniques people use to create larger projects, either covering a surface such as wood or purchasing a larger mould such as a silicone table mould.

If you choose to use a silicone mould, you can create your project using one of the techniques described above.

If you choose to cover a pre-existing surface follow the steps below.

• Raise your chosen project surface on a box. Make sure it is flat to ensure an even coverage of ResinCrete.
• Paint your surface white if it isn't already to give it a blank background to work on.
• Make sure you mix enough ResinCreteto cover your whole surface before starting. You will need white for the main colour plus 3 small cups of coloured ResinCrete.
• Now add the white ResinCreteto your surface as the background. Make sure to get rid of any bubbles before moving to the next step. Using a heat gun is an effective way to do this.
• Now pour your ‘marble veins’ by creating very thin lines up and down your project. Use a heat gun to move the lines around and soften the edges. You can also use a toothpick to move lines around and create a more realistic look.
• Resin will be dripping over the edge of your project, wipe off the drips around every 20 minutes using a mixing stick until ResinCretestops dripping over the edge.

After you’ve poured your ResinCrete 

Once you’ve poured the ResinCrete in your mould or on to your surface you need to tap out all the air bubbles. do this by tapping the sides of your mould, tapping your mould up and down or using a heat gun.

Now let your ResinCrete cure. Small projects will take around 20-30 minutes if using Eco Resin Crete. Larger projects may take up to 24 hours to cure. You will know your ResinCrete is ready for de-moulding once it feels smooth and hard.
